The LDG Design Staff Difference

The Lighting Design Group is the lighting design team that brings excellence to any project. The firm’s designers are well seasoned by years of experience in studios and locations of all types. Every designer approaches each project with a unique creative vision, the same unique vision that has won the firm numerous Emmy Awards and acclamations.


Executive Design Staff

Steven Brill - President and founder of The Lighting Design Group, established in 1989. Distinguished design credits include; The Cosby Show, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman, The Morning Show, and the 2007 summer game show hit Power of 10. Steve and LDG have been the design company and designer of choice for NBC’s coverage of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games since 1992. The team was also NBC’s top pick for Decision 2004: Election Night Coverage from Democracy Plaza, an outdoor venue that transformed Rockefeller Plaza into the 2004 election coverage central.

Dennis Size - Vice President of Design for The Lighting Design Group. Dennis has close to 30 years of lighting design experience in the television industry and is celebrating his 10th year as a designer with LDG. During his career, Dennis has designed the “look” of dozens of programs, most notably The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, The Montel Williams Show and, since 1983, Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. Dennis’ design credits also comprise soap operas, talk shows, variety shows, sporting events, Presidential Conventions, news specials and an extensive list of concerts and musical events including; ABC’s Good Morning America Summer Concert Series in Bryant Park (for the last 5 years), Destiny’s Child: Live from Roseland and The Oxygen Custom Concert Series. Most recently he consulted on the design of The White House Press Room.


Mark London - Vice President of Operations and Systems for the Lighting Design Group. Mark is responsible for managing all operation aspects of the nationally recognized lighting design firm; working with all major networks, cable networks and their affiliates. In addition to operations, Mark heads up architectural lighting design and lighting systems designs for new installations. Mark’s most recent design credits are the London and New York City studios for Thomson Reuters.  Other credits include the Brown-Forman Brand Gallery in Louisville, KY, portable lighting systems for the Whitney Museum of American Art and lighting systems for a new performance space for WNYC Radio.



Senior Design Staff

Daniel Kelley - Senior Lighting Designer for The Lighting Design Group. Dan has worked for the Sesame Workshop designing Elmo’s World, Sesame’s Country Jamboree, and Sesame Street, winning an Emmy Award for the latter. Dan is also a lead designer for NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games, which has garnered him three Emmy Awards for the 2004 Athens, 2002 Salt Lake City and 1996 Atlanta games. Dan’s work has also been seen on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, The Sauce on FUSE as well as the new Fox Business Channel.

Niel Galen - Niel is an 11 year veteran of LDG. Niel’s designs have run the gamut of television. From Beach houses to Jail houses, in studios and on location across the globe, Niel has lit the glamorous and not so. His work for NBC’s coverage of the 2002 and 2004 Olympic Games garnered Emmy awards. In addition, Niel has been nominated for Emmys for his work for CNN, NBC and on Martha Stewart Living. He recently designed the lighting for the NBC News Center and MSNBC’s new home at Rockefeller Center.


Scott Wolfeil - Scott spends a lot of time around food. His work with the Food Network includes The Next Food Network Star, 30 Minute Meals, Emeril Live, Essence of Emeril and many others. Scott also designs Martha Stewart's Everyday Food, Martha Stewarts Everyday Food Baking, Simply Ming, Made in Spain, Chef Story, and Lidia's Italy for Public Television. He is occasionally allowed to escape the food world as the designer of the Montel Williams Show.



Staff Designers

Michael E. Steinberg - Michael joined LDG in the Fall of 2006 after having worked as a Lighting Designer in both the Entertainment and Architectural worlds for over 8 years. From Fall 2006 to Fall 2007, Michael spent most his time as the Lighting Designer in charge of the day to day operations at CNBC’s World Headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. On top of dealing with the daily operations, he had the opportunity to design several new shows and specials. Michael is currently using his past experiences working on Architectural and Systems Projects, and is also applying his lighting design skills, working on location, on a number of different LDG projects.


Mike Grabowski - Mike returns to the firm fresh from lighting the premiere season of Howard Stern On Demand and now calls the MTV Studios in Times Square home. His still increasing credit list for MTV includes Big Ten and My Life with Ryan. Prior to Mike’s position at MTV he served as an Assistant Lighting Designer for LDG. He was the assistant designer at the CNN Studios on Showbiz Tonight and Nancy Grace, where he also served as Lighting Director.


Lane Sparber - Lane has been designing for The Lighting Design Group since 2000. His recent design focus has been at the CNN network working on such shows as American Morning, Your Money, and Open House. He received an Emmy nomination for his design work on Lou Dobbs Tonight. Lane is also credited with designs for VH-1, MTV's Direct Effect, MTV News, and has also done extensive work on TRL, also for MTV. He was part of the Emmy Winning studio team for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney Australia.


Douglas Cox - At CNN and Headline News, Doug has been Lighting Director for Glenn Beck, Out in the Open, Paula Zahn Now, Nancy Grace, Showbiz Tonight and American Morning. He was also Lighting Director for MSNBC’s Deborah Norville Tonight and received an Emmy nomination for his work on NBC’s Election Night on Democracy Plaza.


Mark Janeczko - The Time Warner Center was home to Mark for the past four years where he was the Senior Lighting Director for the NY Bureau and served as Lighting Director on both Anderson Cooper 360 and Headline News’ Nancy Grace. Mark is currently the lead designer for the CBS College Sports network and SportsNet New York remotes. Mark’s credits span the gamut of lighting design and production from corporate, industrial, theatre, dance, and television for over a decade. His background in so many disciplines artistically and technically, makes him in invaluable resource to the Group.


Sean Crowley - Sean began designing with The Lighting Design Group in 2004. He currently works as a Designer/Director at CNBC Studios on various shows including Kudlow & Company, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, and Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo. Sean received his MFA in Lighting Design at NYU in 2005.


Sean McLoughlin - Sean is a Lighting Designer and Director at CNBC handling daytime programming. He has been working for The Lighting Design Group since 2005. Before relocating to CNBC, Sean was a CNN ALD and was also part of the design support staff assisting the company’s Senior Lighting Designers. In 2005 Sean received a BFA in lighting design from The Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film.


Sean Riley - Sean has been designing for The Lighting Design Group since 2006. Currently, Sean works as a designer/director at CNBC, working on many different shows during their daytime and primetime programming such as Mad Money and the Emmy Award winning Business Nation.


Adam Gabel - Adam has been with The Lighting Design Group since 2005. Prior to his work in television he spent many years lighting live music and dance. His current focus is at CNN where he works on Lou Dobbs Tonight, Showbiz Tonight, and Open House, among others.


Erik Michael - Erik has been part of The Lighting Design Group team since 2005. His main focus at LDG is at the CBS College Sports network where he serves as the Lighting Director. Erik also serves as a substitute Lighting Director at CNBC and a substitute Assistant Lighting Director at CNN, working on all programs at both networks. An Arizona native, Erik earned his BFA in Lighting Design from the University of Arizona.


Anna Jones - Anna works as the assistant lighting designer out of the Lighting Design Group office in Manhattan. She provides drafting and design support to the LDG design staff. Before arriving at LDG in 2006 Anna received her MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Connecticut.


Amith A. Chandrashaker - Amith is an Assistant Lighting Director at CNN. He has assisted on Lou Dobbs Tonight, Paula Zahn Now, and Out in the Open. He is currently the assistant on Glenn Beck and Election Center with Campbell Brown. Amith joined The Lighting Design Group in 2007.


Andrew Keegan - Andrew is an Assistant Lighting Director at CNN handling evening programming. He began working at The Lighting Design Group in 2006.  At CNN, Andrew's llist of credits include Anderson Cooper 360, Campbell Brown "No Bias, No Bull." CNN's Coverage of the 2008 Elections and as an electrician at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. 

Joshua Windhausen - Joshua has been with The Lighting Design Group since 2006.  His current focus is at CNN where he is the Lighting Director for Campbell Brown's "No Bias, No Bull," Andersoon Cooper 360 and DL Hughly Breaks the News.  Joshua recieved his MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Arizona.
